Education support Programme
Investing in Young Minds for a Brighter Future
Education has the power to change lives. SIWEC’s support programmes help students from less advantaged households stay motivated and continue learning by providing practical help where it’s most needed.
In collaboration with the Singapore Sikh Education Foundation (SSEF), we extend support to students enrolled in the Ministry of Education Financial Assistance Scheme (MOE FAS) and those from lower-income households pursuing Non-Tamil Indian Languages (NTIL) studies. Generous contributions from our donors enable us to fully subsidize school fees, provide school books, cover examination fees, and supply uniforms for these students.
Additionally, recognizing the challenges faced by parents unable to send their children to NTIL language centers on Saturdays due to work commitments, we facilitate and subsidize the cost of bus transportation, ensuring seamless access to education for all students.

In 2024, Sikh Welfare Council supported 42 such students, disbursing a total amount of $26,280.

Academic Excellence Programme (AEP)
Children represent the future hopes of every family in Singapore. We firmly believe that to ensure children’s success in life, strong foundational support is essential. This belief propelled the inception of the Academic Excellence Programme (AEP) in 2014, specifically tailored for primary school students. The programme’s goal is to enhance students’ proficiency in core subjects such as English, Maths & Science, thereby enhancing their overall academic performance.
Our social workers collaborate with families, schools and various agencies to support students holistically. Their role extends beyond academics to addressing behavioural and other concerns by working closely with schools and fellow social workers to assess the student’s needs and provide appropriate support, ensuring their overall well-being and development.

Outcome:
In the latest final examination results, all students showcased significant improvement in their academic performance, exhibiting increased motivation and confidence, which collectively indicated holistic development. Our graduating students in Primary 6 performed well with eligibility for G2 and G3 banding across their subjects. Parents were pleased with the support given to their children under this programme.
PSLE Preparatory Support
As part of SIWEC’s commitment to supporting students through key academic milestones, PSLE preparatory classes are organised to help Primary 6 students build confidence and strengthen their English language skills ahead of the national examination.
Led by experienced educators and volunteers, these sessions focus not just on academic preparation, but also on boosting self-belief and exam readiness. Lessons often include oral practice, time management techniques, and strategies for tackling various components of the PSLE English paper.
In 2024, the programme ran from June to September and included both in-person and online sessions. Students benefited from targeted support and a safe space to ask questions, practice, and prepare.
SIWEC hopes to continue offering this form of personalised academic support to students who may otherwise have limited access to such resources.
